Book Review – The Chase by Josephine F Wentzel

True Life Crime – An amazing story

The Chase is such a powerful book, I was in tears several times, and totally gripped by the unfolding saga.

The author’s daughter, Krystal, was brutally murdered in 2016.  The bulk of this book is the author’s account of how she set about joining up with US Marshals to hunt down the killer.  From an incredibly moving narrative of how the family coped with the murder, to a huge social media campaign to catch him, to dealing with all the officials involved in both the murder and the manhunt, the book is powerful and unforgettable.

Wentzel’s writing is crisp and succinct, not overly emotional, more matter of fact.  The case is gripping, making the book unputdownable!  She explains how she writes to people (including Mr. Trump when he was president) to ‘poke the fire’ and get the case moving.  She did exactly that, making history by Krystal’s case becoming the first ever to have a bounty of $50,000!

The account of dealing with tipsters in Belize, Mexico was completely jaw-dropping and often funny.

Not only is the book written to help, encourage and empower the families of other victims, but Wentzel is using proceeds from the book to help fund her site:  Angels of Justice to continue to help people.

I had the honor of editing this book and I was moved to tears a few times.  It took me by surprise when I read the finished version on Kindle today and started crying again, even though I know it already!  That’s what a dynamic writer Wentzel is.  Hats off to her.  Wonderful person; talented author.
